How to move DVD movies to Google Nexus 6

A simple step-by-step guide on ripping and putting DVD movies on Google Nexus 6.

The Nexus 6's whopper of an AMOLED screen runs at Quad HD (2,560 x 1,440, if you haven't already memorized it), and that combination of display size and resolution is frankly beautiful. We can say without resevation that the Nexus 6 absolutely rocks for watching movies. If you want to transfer your favourite DVD movies to Nexus 6 for amusement wherever you go, here is a simple tutorial for you, guaranteed to get your DVD movies onto Nexus 6 while keeping original high quality.

To get the work done, you need to get some help from third-party softwares. There are many programs out there that allow you to make copies of your DVDs and let you watch them the way you want to view them. The best program I can recommend for ripping DVDs to Nexus 6 is EaseFab DVD Ripper. It is easy to use for editing and conversion and makes great quality copies of my DVDs.

The program takes everything from the DVD, including the chapters, extras, and subtitles. With it, you can take your digtal copy down to the 1.5GB level (without losing the quality of your DVD). The audio/video synchronization is very good, the size of the subtitles too. And each rip and compress only take 10-15 minutes or even less. If you're playing your DVD movies on Google Nexus 6, chances are you already installed this great utility. If not, download it from here.

The software works like most other DVD Ripper I've used. Pop in your disc, choose the Android phone preset, and click Convert to start DVD to Nexus 6 MP4 conversion. Below is a detailed workflow.

How to Rip DVDs for playing on Nexus 6

Step 1 -> Insert your DVD movies into your computer's drive, and then click the "Disc" button on the interface to navigate to the DVD videos you want to convert.

Step 2 -> Next, select a proper output video format. Basically the Android Phone from Android category is a universal format for Android smartphones which is also suitable for Nexus 6.

Step 3 -> You can also click "Settings" to change the video encoder, frame rate, resolution, etc. Remember the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss. According to my experience, for watching movies on the Nexus 6, 720p with 1500kbps~2000kbps (depending on the movie length) is just all right.

Step 4 -> When everything is OK, just press the "Convert" button to start ripping DVD to Nexus 6 MP4 videos. It will not take much time. Just wait for the conversion process to get done.

There, now you know how to get DVD movies onto your Google Nexus 6 so you can watch them on that gorgeous screen! Keep in mind that some of the settings can be tweaked to improve the video quality but it's a balance between quality and size. Using the settings I suggested, a 115-minute (The Fighter, set bitrate as 1500kbps) encoded to about a 1.3GB MP4 file.

Editors' note: With decent decrypting capability, high quality video output and considerate backup solution and specific format templates for versatile PMP devices (iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Xbox, PS3, Android tablets and phones, etc), EaseFab DVD Ripper ranks top on the DVD ripping application list.
